Day Three
Genesis 2:21-23
In Genesis 2:18, God says, “It is not good that man should be alone,” and creates a helper fit for Adam. God created us and Adam to live in unity with Him and each other in perfect peace. We experience community with Jesus when we spend time in fellowship with him, are comforted by his love, and are recipients of his mercy, compassion,
and grace.
My freshman year of college, God met me on the floor of my apartment when I was homesick. School was hard for the first time in my life, and I didn’t get into the organization that all of my friends got into. In this loneliness, I experienced community with Jesus as He reminded me that He also experienced homesickness and loneliness. I was reminded that Jesus left his perfect home in Glory to come and dwell among us so that I might have life—life to the full. It was during this time that I began to grow in my relationship with Him, and He led me to finding community and a home in my local church. I learned that living in community with others is to live and love sacrificially.
As Christians, life is no longer about what we can get from others, but about what we can give to others, just as Jesus came to give to us. In Philippians 2:5-8, Paul encourages us to be like Jesus in humbling and emptying ourselves in order to serve others so that God may be glorified. May we be a people who love others the same way He loves us this Advent season.
