Many of you who know Rocky & Joanna Maynard also know how hard working and integral their family is to our church. Joanna has been the first face you see at the church office as our front desk Receptionist since 2015, and Rocky was hired as our Groundskeeper in 2022. After having some serious health concerns earlier this year, however, Rocky stepped down from his position to focus on recovery.

As the Maynards walk in this season in life, they are extremely thankful for the support of our church family during a time that can sometimes feel very isolating. In conversation with Joanna, she said “I love my job, my co-workers, and Marble Falls… and I’m so glad to have had the church’s support when Rocky’s health deteriorated.”

When Rocky had his first stroke on February 18, 2023, it took the whole family by surprise. Members of our church family, including church staff and members of the Ichthus Sunday morning class, all rallied in the waiting room waiting for news. As more and more familiar faces showed up to check on the Maynards at the hospital, over and over Joanna received the confirmation that this was the church and the place to be right in that moment.

The meal trains, notes of encouragement, cards filled with lovely sentiments, and all the words of affirmation filled Joanna with the strength to move forward and take another step in the right direction. She mentioned how grateful she was for the power of prayer our church family holds, not only in this instance but from back in the day when Joanna herself had a bout with cancer. She praises the willingness our volunteers express to serve our community and hopes that when it’s her time, she will get to do the same in return.

Rocky had a second stroke incident in June, 2023, and was first hospitalized at Lakeway Rehab then transferred to Kingsland to continue treatment. The good news? After a lot of hard work, Rocky is now back home and the Maynards are working on finding a good daily rhythm for everyone.

We ask our church family to please continue praying over the Maynard family as they navigate their way back into daily tasks and for continued healing and recovery over Rocky.
