During the week of February 6-10, I had a great opportunity to travel to Honduras for a vision trip with Billy Perez. As many of you know, Billy’s family, as well as the Slyker family from our church spent almost 3 years as missionaries in Honduras. Billy and I had the privilege to reconnect with some wonderful people, churches, and ministries. We also made some new ministry contacts and saw the great things God is doing in that country.
To share just a few examples:
We met Ellie Cecil, who started the Two Hands Ministry in order to teach sign language to deaf children. These kids were locked in a world of little to no communication with anyone. They couldn’t make friends, learn at school, or talk with their own parents until Ellie introduced them to a new world of speaking with their hands!
I went on a tour of La Casa de Rubén, a place of therapy and community for people with physical disabilities that was created by Greg & Jean Hines. When they first met Rubén, he was confined to a bed, paralyzed, covered in bed sores, and barely able to move. Now, he lives at the ministry, receives daily physical therapy, has a wheel chair, and keeps busy and productive making crafts out of wood.
We also had a great visit with Shannon Hopkins of 61 Isaiah Ministries. They are focused on sharing the gospel, creating Christ-centered relationships, strengthening churches and pastors, and partnering churches in the US with these long term efforts.
It is my prayer that First Baptist Church Marble Falls will be able to partner soon with some of these ministries in Honduras to expand the kingdom of God there. Please be praying with me and our Missions Committee as we seek the Lord’s heart going forward.
