Day Nineteen
Mark 1:16-20
One of the best parts of living in 2022 is GPS. The fact that we can get anywhere at any given point, and our phone or car will tell us what to do has changed the game of travel. But even the best GPS can’t cover up for a bad partner sitting in the passenger seat. You know who I’m talking about—the passenger that isn’t paying attention to the GPS and then forgets to tell you to turn or how far away the next turn is and so you end up more lost than you would’ve been if you would have just given in and finally bought a mount for your GPS instead of relying on an unreliable passenger for directions.
The truth is, it matters who is giving direction, because whoever is giving direction is truly who you’re following. The good news is this is one way Jesus comes down to be with us. Jesus isn’t just hanging around and spending time with people; He’s going somewhere. Jesus has a purpose and a mission to fulfill, and He invites the disciples to follow Him.
And He invites us to do the same. The great invitation from Jesus isn’t to pray a prayer or to just go to Heaven, but to follow Him in what He’s doing, how He lived, and where He’s going. Fortunately, He’s much better at leading than many people in our passenger seats; we need only to accept the call. Take a moment this morning to remember that whatever Jesus is calling you to, He is also right there leading you to.
