Group Discussion

In what ways does focusing on Christ Jesus keep a church strong?

Imagine being in a very difficult situation a long way from home, and there is no one like you. Finally, you meet someone who is a Christian who is going through the same difficulty you are. Other than their devotion to Christ, this person is very different than you. What role would all of your opinions play in a moment? What is needed for a relationship?

Preschool – FirstLook Lesson Summary & Application Activity

Bible Story Focus:  God loves me, and I am special to Him. The Lost Coin • Luke 15:8-10
Memory Verse:  “Nothing at all can ever separate us from God’s love.” Romans 8:39, NIrV
Key Question: Who loves you?
Bottom Line: God loves me.
Basic Truth: God loves me.

Application Activity: Coin Counting

What You Need:

Ten yellow paper plates or circles and a permanent marker

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Use the permanent marker to write the numbers, 1-10 on the center of each plate, one number per plate. Hide the plates around the house for the children to find.

What You Say:

During the Activity: “I’ve hidden ten “coins” around the house. Let’s work together to find all ten. Then, we’ll put them in order and count together.”
After the Activity: “Great finding and counting! How many coins did we find? Yes, we found all ten! In our Bible story today, we heard about a woman who had ten coins, but she lost one!”

Elementary

Elementary – 252Kids Lesson Summary & Application Activity

Bible Story: I Need to Know (Philip and the Man from Ethiopia) • Acts 8:26-40
Bottom Line: Keep going even when you have questions.
Key Question: What questions do you have?
Memory Verse: Let us not become tired of doing good. At the right time we will gather a crop if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIrV)
Life App: Determination—Deciding it’s worth it to finish what you started
Basic Truth: I need to make the wise choice.

Application Activity: So Puzzled

What You Need: Puzzles

What You Do:

  • Set out the puzzles that are missing pieces or have mixed-up pieces.
  • Encourage kids to work together to put together all of the puzzles.
  • Prompt them with questions such as:
    • Are any of puzzles missing a piece?
    • Do you think someone else in the room might have your missing piece by chance?
  • Make sure to provide the missing puzzle pieces (or reveal the places where they are hidden) so kids can complete the puzzles.

What You Say:

“Well, did anyone else feel like that was nearly impossible without the missing pieces? What were you thinking when you realized something wasn’t quite right? (Allow time for responses.) You know, I’ve come to realize that sometimes life looks a bit questionable, just like these puzzles did without the right pieces! Today we learned about a man who had some of his own questions!”
