Creative Hearts Ministry’s (CHM) objective is to offer people tangible love and comfort (usually a quilt) during a health crisis or need. We make quilts and other items for our wounded service members, babies in NICU, and others in seasons of life that could use or need a little comfort. CHM reaches beyond our city limits and domestic borders to communities and people around the globe. Our quilts and other items have comforted those in Kenya, Honduras, Germany and a special people group in Northeast China. The recipients feel loved.
CHM gifted a scripture quilt when a former church member, Karen Cottrell, was going through chemo. She witnessed to several people with that quilt. Her husband had it draped over her casket at the service and shared how much it meant to Karen and her family.
A thank you card we received from the mother of a baby in the NICU read in part – “Your gift gave me hope. Why would someone take the time to make something so beautiful if my baby was going to die?”
A doctor in Marble Falls personally witnessed our quilts being distributed at Landstuhl AFB, Germany and shared how special they were to the soldiers.
A note from one CHM member: Several of our ‘members’ are alone, elderly, of very limited means that see CHM as their day out with friends. One lady is 96, one lives alone and another in a nursing home – the list goes on and on. My mother is 86 and plans her week around Tuesday’s at CHM. She sews and visits with her friends and feels useful.
While we may not have the opportunity to share the Gospel with recipients, we hope they feel the love of Christ in the quilts and items we make and distribute.
Our weekly meetings on Tuesdays (9:00 – 3:00) consist of working on projects, enjoying a sack lunch (we will resume potluck when we have a kitchenette) and spending time together sharing our gifts and talents. While we have lots of fun, we work really hard. Earlier in the year, someone donated a bolt of Christmas panels. This past fall, CHM members made them into quilts for the NICU (above). We recently had one of our CHM members create and finish her very first quilt top (below). We are so proud of Bettina! Please come join us on Tuesdays and see what we do and how much fun we have loving on people!
