Day Fifteen
1 Samuel 17:41-47
David and Goliath has become somewhat of a cultural phenomenon in the world we live in today. These are the characters that illustrate for us the great underdog stories where David is always the small, weak, and underdog hero conquering the popular, empire-esque giant that is Goliath.
And yet, when we actually read the story, there is clearly a third character in the battle that is very present in the fight and actually delivers the victory to David. As the Christian reader, we approach the text in a way that sees that David is not the hero at all, but rather God is.
The truth of this passage is that as we walk through life trying our best to follow Jesus, we will face opposition. There will be very real forces at play whether spiritual or actual people or situations in our lives that oppose our walks with Christ and His Kingdom coming about on Earth. And yet, just as God delivers that opposition into the hands of David, He is also with us as we face opposition.
Maybe you have a family that doesn’t approve of your faith, or you feel like you hit a wall everytime you try to move forward in a ministry God is calling you to, or the environment that you work in makes it hard to be a believer. It could be any one of these and more, and yet, we are reminded that God is with us in that opposition, and He will work alongside us for the good of His kingdom coming about.
